Bohemian Waxwings are invasion-like winter birds in Drenthe. They are mainly seen in built up areas where they forage on the berries of exotic bushes. On 13 January a group of 10-11 birds was observed foraging on Juniper berries in the Drouwenerzand, a remote heath land and on 4 February probably the same group was still there. On 24 November a group of at least three birds was seen foraging on Junipers in the Terhorsterzand, an area similarto the Drouwenerzand. In Fenno-Skandinavia and Northern-Russia Juniper berries are the main food in winter, especially in spring when the birds return to their breeding grounds. In temperate zones however this food resource is rarely mentioned.
