Reproductive behaviour in butterflies not only differs between the sexes but also greatly between species. Males may find a female by reacting to the scent produced by the female. For other species, there are more visual ways of finding a mate, such as perching and patrolling. Reproductive behaviour is affected by several factors including population density, habitat and weather conditions.
