In 1999 the ‘Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging (Dutch Malacological Society) existed 65 years. This article follows a lecture on the subject by the author, held in 1999 during the jubilee-meeting in Leiden at the museum of Natural History (Naturalis). The author contemplates on the history, early days, people, chairmen, boardmembers and activities of the society.
