A survey of the stomach contents of seven specimens of the Striped sea bream, Lithognathus mormyrus, (family Sparidae), revealed the presence of remains of nine bivalve species. All are wellknown species occurring in the coastal waters of Israël. Three species live adherend to rocks, stones or other firm objects ( Gregariella, Modiolus and Malleus); all other species occur in soft substrates (sand or mud). Malleus regulus is the only Lessepsian migrant among the prey species. Noteworthy is the complete absence of gastropods and scaphopods among the food items. Does it mean that this species of fish has developed a specialization in feeding on bivalves among the molluscs?
