On top of the dike along the left bank of the river Maas just south of the Dutch-Belgian border, several doublets and single valves of the freshwater mussel Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774) and one valve of Corbicula fluminalis (Müller, 1774) were found. Explanations provided for this find include consumption of the mussels by a bird or their use as bait by fishermen.
