The province of Noord-Holland is well-known for its numerous polders. Especially the smaller ones are suitable for making a walk around them. On the 26th of October 1999 the author made a walk around the Broekermeer, a polder just north of Amsterdam, which was drained in 1628. Not less than 49 species of land- and freshwater molluscs could be recorded for this area. All were found alive except for Theodoxus fluviatilis. Most probably this list is still incomplete and another 10 species may be expected to occur in the area. Predation on Cepaea nemoralis and Cantareus aspersus by Common shrews and Thrushes was also recorded.
