Observations on the floating ashore of egg capsules of the whelk ( Buccinum undatum) have been made at two locations on the coast of the island of Texel, the Netherlands. Generally the capsules were found during the winter season, occasionally in summer. While during the winter season 1998—1999 and 1999-2000 many capsules were floated ashore, it was next to nothing during 2000-2001. A relation between the floating ashore of whelk-egg capsules and the wind direction and stream pattern is suggested.
